An orphan girl, after craving for mother’s love since childhood, starts finding it in an elderly woman, who was abandoned by her own son.

Nandini, Kishore, Mahesh, Scud, Bhakti, Jessica, Chandana and Sridhar / Sri are all friends from school. They all finish their final year exams and try their level best to kick start their careers while they face some interesting situations in life. Nandini and her senior Kishore are in love. But Nandini’s father hardly understands his kid’s yearning for some lost prestige. Mahesh and Scud haven’t been on talking terms since years. Bhakti is a happy go lucky girl, or so it seems. Jessica, a foreign student, is trying to make it big in fashion in India, living as a guest with rich Chandana. Sridhar is in love with Chandana but doesn’t want to express it to her before he settles down in life. And then there is Dakshayini, who is bent on stealing Sridhar from Chandana. The film covers the coming of age of all these friends, as they try to solve a Rubik’s cube called life. It also covers a lot of issues like acid attacks on girls, suicides, misunderstandings, false prestige and so on.

The entire story revolves around the young man Bruce who come from a village to the city inorder to fight out for his uncle with his fighting skills to solve his uncle’s problem over the property.

A rich estate owner is killed by his second wife and her brother Aadimoolam (Radharavi). The estate owner’s son Raja (Rajinikanth) returns from the USA and learns of this. In order to bring the culprits to book, he makes his friend Sethupathi (Janagaraj), a rickshaw puller, act as Raja. But soon, Aadimoolam learns of this and kills his own son and frames Raja as the killer. Raja is sentenced to death. In between, Raja loves Senkamalam (Radha), sister of an employee in his estate. in the same village where Raja lives, there exists his lookalike, Chinnaraasu (Rajinikanth again), whose aim in life is to wed his sweetheart Lakshmi (Nadia). Raja escapes from jail, meets Chinnaraasu and makes Chinnaraasu take his place in jail. After many twist and turns, Raja brings the culprits to book. At the end, Raja marries Senkamalam and Chinnarasu marries Lakshmi.

In 1970, a marine engineer Lenin (Cheran) from Calcutta comes across a Nagore girl Nadira (Padmapriya). Started with friendship, later seeded with love, Lenin mails a letter once a month. When Lenin came to Nagore, he was disappointed and sad as Nadira and her family left the place after selling their home. Years later, Mahesh (Aryan Rajesh), son of Lenin, found his father’s hidden life from reading his diary. With help from his friend Shamsudeen (Ajai.R), He marches his way to find Nadira and deliver the letter to her. He comes to know that Nadira has shifted to Malaysia after marriage. He goes to Malaysia to meet her. Once he reaches her house, he is greeted by Nadira’s son who welcomes him to the house. Nadira is now very old and asks Mahesh as to who he is and how does he know her? He replies saying he is Lenin’s son and also informs her that his father died few years back. Nadira is grief-stricken. Mahesh gives her Lenin’s last few letters which he could not post because he did not have Nadira’s address. In those letters, Lenin has spoken about his journey to find Nadira after she and her family shifted from Nagore. He describes his pain and grief over not knowing about her situation during those days, and also about his father who coaxed him to marry another girl (played by Anupama Kumar), who is now his wife and is very understanding. Nadira then drops Mahesh to the airport and while on the way she request him to let her talk to his mother. Nadira and Mahesh’s mother exchange good notes and then she finally drops him to the airport. While coming back, she is talking to her herself as well as to Lenin saying that she showed her anguish and punished her father by denying to marry anyone. She currently lives with her sister and her lovable family and apologises and promises Lenin that she will join him soon and never separate.

After some time, he realizes and asks her to return the money. While they meet, they fall in love and decide to get married. She asks him to see her father, who is a Police Sub-Inspector in Ranuvapetai. He asks him to join the army or at least become a police officer, only then he will allow him to marry his daughter. Then The rest of the story revolves how Vetri succeeds in love and job despite bad selection officers at selection. In the meantime, Vetri also makes friends with other participants at the selection.
