Ajith is Red (it stands for Revolution, Education, Development), an orphan who has since grown up to be the local don in Madurai. Naturally he possesses a heart of gold and when not bashing up bad guys, he spends his time forcing schools to accept students without donations and taking care of orphans. Cheeni (Salim Ghouse) is his biggest enemy. Red falls for Gayatri (Priya Gill), the daughter of his friend and confidante Narayanan (Manivannan) and helps her without her knowledge. The film begins with a narration on how India has been turned into a landfill site for domestic and foreign countries, with the countries dumping even ammunition waste onto Indian soil. In Delhi, Balusamy, aka Balu (Arya), a communist leader, is convicted by the court on counts of robbery, murder and treason is given death sentence. Despite Balu’s request to execute him as a martyr by shooting, the court orders that he be hanged within a month’s time by a professional executioner or hangman. He is escorted to a high security prison complex in Chennai by Macaulay (Shaam), an honest, law abiding police officer who is given the charge of monitoring him until his execution. The prison provides freedom to all prisoners, including Balu, to do whatever they want, as long as they do not cause unrest. Balu is instantly admired by the inmates for his patriotism and philosophy as well as his empathy with the inmates. They view him as a spokesperson to the prison officials on behalf of them.
Auto-rickshaw driver Manickam (Rajnikant) is a do-gooder who avoids violence at all costs. Manickam romances rich kid Nagma, whose father is a criminal, and knows a dirty secret about his would-be son-in-law. Manickam’s brother, a righteous police officer gets into trouble with the local goons, triggering a set of events that revive Manickam’s old self.
Prabhu (Dhanush) is a happy-go-lucky middle-class family guy who spends time playing carrom. He and his father (Murali) fall into minor misunderstandings, and he indulges in a romance with Hema (Divya Spandana). When Prabhu is caught in stealing a pittance from his father for booze with his friends, he questions his father’s responsibility towards his upbringing. His father gives Prabhu some of his savings and tells him to do something with his life. Prabhu purchases a Bajaj Pulsar bike and finds a job. The bike saves his life from a freak incident and later gets lost. When his family members ask him about his bike, he tells them that he has given it for dealer service.

VERULI, as the name indicates scarecrow, the director of the film Amudhavanan throws a sequence of incidents that confuses Ashwin( Abishek) as real accidents. The events and evidence also scares the situation. Series of same events makes Ashwin to think in another angle leading to conclusion. With the help and advice from his peers Ashwin makes youthful activities in twisting the reason. Reporter (Archana Singh)paves way for the investigation in her perception along with her cameraman Shankar(Jayachandran)in a presentable humour. A sequence of humourous facts in between turns the film towards (K.Bhakiyaraj) who narrates the situation and justifies the reason and helps in breaking the suspense.
