Alauddin
Alaudin (Prabhu Deva) is a slum guy and orphan with a golden heart who fights against injustice faced by his fellow slum dwellers. The people of Alli Kuppam bring him up. To fulfill the day-to-day needs of the poor, Alaudin decides to steal from rich people. His main enemy is the scheming, powerful Gangadhar (Raghuvaran). During one of his attempts to steal in Gangadhar’s house, Alaudin witnesses a murder committed by Gangadhar and gets some implicating evidence: a blood-soaked knife and a cut right thumb of Gangadhar. He cleverly uses this situation and starts blackmailing Gangadhar to accomplish all of Alli Kuppam’s needs. Gangadhar becomes his golden goose, his magic lamp, which does his every proposition. Preethi (Ashima Bhalla) is Gangadhar’s manager’s daughter, and she falls for Alaudin. All efforts to catch Alaudin fail. In the final move, Gangadhar plans carefully, traps Alaudin, and shoots him at point blank range. A chance look at the chain worn by Alaudin brings the necessary twist to the story. To his shock, Gangadhar realizes Alaudin is his son who was mistaken to be murdered 25 years ago. The saved Alaudin refuses to accept his father’s request to stay back with him, and takes a promise that he should not reveal the secret to anyone, and that he wants to go back to the Kuppam.

Kantara

Manathodu Mazhaikalam
Siva (Shaam) and Sathya (Nithya Das) are college mates and good friends who always look out for each other. Their friendship continues even after their college days. Siva’s and Sathya’s parents mistake their friendship as an affair. The two refuse and make it clear that they are platonic friends with oneness in their thoughts, but no plutonic thoughts. In the course of time, Siva marries Shruthi (Sameksha) and Sathya marries Karthik (Jayasurya). Shruthi soon becomes pregnant but dies of childbirth complciations. Siva is left to raise his son on his own. Many years pass, and Siva’s son (Shyam Ganesh) begins to treat him badly, leaving him destitute. At the same time, Karthik informs Siva that Sathya is in her deathbed due to heart problems. In due course of time, Sathya dies. The film ends as Karthik and Siva, both widowers, walk together, vowing to remain good friends for the remainder of their lives.

Rojavanam
Muthu (Karthik) is the favourite employee at Rojavanam, a home for the aged owned jointly by two friends (Ravikumar and “Nizhalgal” Ravi). Sindhu (Malavika) is a psychology student staying at the home. Muthu falls in love with Roja (Laila), the daughter of his boss but learns that the boss and his friend, had decided long ago that their children would be married and this has resulted in the friend’s son growing up enamoured of Roja. Roja’s father accepts Muthu as his son-in-law but his friend, angered at this, decides to bulldoze Rojavanam to the ground. But Rojavanam saved by muthu with marrying Roja and Siva. At the climax, Muthu gets married to Sindhu. After a few years, Muthu, now old, is seen asking a few advocates to fight for Rojavanam.

Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam
Manoja, a girl accustomed with the western style of life and a typically introvert Prabhu, who has never been with a girl in his life. These two getting married – sounds impossible right? But that’s what arranged marriages can do! With Manoja and Prabu having different ideas about marriage and sex, they start off on the wrong foot and separate when the unthinkable happens on their path to harmony. Are they able to mend their ways again? – The answer to which is what the rest of the movie walks us through.
