Deva and Shiva (both played by Ajith Kumar) are twins. Deva, the elder, is deaf and mute; but he is a genius, an expert at lip-reading, and the head of a successful advertising company. Shiva loves and trusts his brother. Priya (Simran) wants to marry someone who is an ex-smoker, ex-drunkard, and who got ditched by a girl but is pining for her. Learning this, Shiva, with the help of his friend Vicky (Vivek), invents an old romance between him and Sona (Jyothika), and finds his way into Priya’s heart.

The story revolves around Maran (Kishore), who works in a bakery. He and his wife (Latha Rao) are searching for a house to rent. A shady broker (Scissor Manohar) gets Maran a house under his budget, but he has to face the sanctions of the house owner (Bala Singh) if he wants to stay in the house. The house owner will only allow a family of four, but Maran has three children, making it five members in his family, including him and his wife. Maran has no other option, so he lies to the house owner and hides one of his kids in the box which he uses to load his bakery goods..[5]

Meanwhile Brinda (Gopika), a college lace from Kanyakumari comes to Calcutta on a tour along with her friends. Pimps operating in the red light area of Calcutta take away Brinda and force her into brothel business. Jaya accidentally meets Brinda who is held captive by the gang. He helps Brinda escape from the gang and takes her safely to Kanyakumari. On her way back home by train, Brinda starts admiring Jaya’s niceties and gradually falls in love with him. When she expresses her desire, Jaya reciprocates her love, and both decide to enter into wedlock but little does he know that Brindha is actually the daughter of Seena Thana. Jaya takes away Brinda from her house and in turn, earns the wrath of Seena Thana. Angst at this, Seena Thana summons his rowdy gangs and plots to bump off Thotti Jaya. How Thottijaya accomplishes his hopes of marrying Brinda is told eloquently in the remaining part of the story.

Thilak (Vijay Sethupathi) is a news anchor who works for Zen One TV, which is run by Kalyan (Akashdeep Saighal), a corrupt and unethical media baron who uses blatant sensationalism to gain TRP and is closely associated with Dheeran Maniarasu (Bose Venkat), a corrupt and powerful politician. Kalyan ensures that his channel does not report anything negatively about Dheeran and receives kickbacks in return. Also working for Zen One is Malar (Madonna Sebastian), Thilak’s ex-girlfriend. Though Malar avoids Thilak initially, she soon realises her feelings for him, and they get back together.
